Nome II via mioxl is jittery.

Hi there,

New user here. I have been playing around with different routings and I notice that if I route midi din direct from nome to hardware, clock locks absolutely tight. But, when I route through the mioxl, I'm noticing jitter on the hardware devices... I have a redshift and a digi2 hooked up, and both tempo displays show clock wandering +/- .1 bpm pretty much constantly when connected through the mioxl, although the digi seems to be a little more stable.

I've disabled everything else on the mio so that the nome ii is the only thing sending midi, doesn't improve the situation. Any other suggestions or troubleshooting tips?

That’s a good test, and the important part is that the clock is tight when going directly from Nome.

What you’re seeing through the MioXL is most likely not “real” jitter from the clock itself, but how the device is processing / re-transmitting MIDI.

A couple of quick things to try would be to make sure there’s no merging or processing happening in the Mio and/or test with just one device connected.

Also worth keeping in mind: those ±0.1 BPM changes on displays don’t always mean the timing is actually off, especially if it sounds tight.

Everything sounds fine. I'm used to seeing that amount of variation on the displayed bpm on devices, so that in itself isn't so troubling -- it's only noteable in comparison to a direct connection with the Nome, which apprars to be so tight.

There shouldn't be any merging or processing happening, but I will try it with a fresh preset on the mio today to see if there's any difference.
